He never played football…

This is a strange case of coach Andre Villas-Boas. The Portuguese never played football, as he happened to be in the same neighborhood as the legendary Sir Bobby Robson when he was a kid and has been infected with the germ ever since. A member of Jose Mourinho's coaching staff at a young age, he took over his first team in 2009, when he was just 32 years old. Within a few months, the job he did at Akademika "baked" the Porto bosses, who offered him a contract in June 2010. Twelve dream months followed, with Villas-Boas winning four titles with the "dragons", the championship. (undefeated), the Cup, the Portuguese Super Cup and the Europa League!

His tremendous success opened the door for Chelsea, whose people saw the new Mourinho in his face. But then the problems started. The Portuguese found them dark in London, as a result of which he left in March, having the 5th team in the Premier League standings. The rest is certainly history, with the "blues" reaching the conquest of the Champions League under the guidance of Roberto Di Matteo!

Villas-Boas soon returned to London to take over Tottenham. He lasted there for a year and a half, as after a relatively successful first season, the team was no longer the same without Gareth Bale (who left for Real Madrid). The next stop is Russia and Zenit, where the Iberian coach won a championship, a Cup and a Russian Super Cup. Between 2016 and 2017, he was in China for the sake of the Shanghai SIPG, with which he did not win a title but laid the foundations for the team that would win the championship in 2018.

And this is how we arrive at the occasion of this text. The last stop in the career of the 43-year-old coach, Marseille, who gave him the keys in May 2019 and brought him back to work after his involvement with… motor sports. Villas-Boas led Marseille to 2nd place in Ligue 1, at least until the end of the season due to a coronavirus. The final lockout led the Marseille to the Champions League for the first time in seven years but the club's major financial problems made him consider leaving, especially after the removal of sporting director Anthony Thumbithareta. Finally, the great reactions of the fans convinced him to stay for the second year of his contract and to hope that the management will not sell half of the basic eleven in order to come out financially…
