The institution of the cup, the event that in all football advanced countries is a real celebration, an opportunity for surprises and emotions, has come to complete inactivity in football Greece.
After continuous shots in recent years, this year the cup receives another knife, this time capable of causing unheard-of damage. In a season that has been severely affected by the pandemic and its aftermath, although Greece has been recognized as a safe country and distinguished for treating covid-19, the other disease, that of football, could not fail to show new symptoms.
After the final of the postponement and the empty stands of 2016, after the scenes of shame in Volos in the final of Volos, after the OAKA made by winners and losers in 2018 and after the final of 500 invitations (!) For security reasons in 2019, we have reached 2020. And we took it off! The cup final that would be held this weekend has been postponed. In particular, on 26/7 at "G Kamaras" in Rizoupoli. "Circles" and "people close to the managers of Olympiakos" protested in every way against the EPO. AEK kept a waiting attitude and the solution was given by the Region! Which diagnosed unsuitability for security reasons, although the match would not have fans. And of course the EPO just 24 hours before the final, with an unsuitable stadium in "hands", could not do otherwise. She postponed it.
The sequel after the postponement, overcame the measles and touched the ridiculous. A date was heard at the end of August, with a roster this year and without the transfers or those who had left. And so the letters began to fall like hail. The circles fell silent and the press offices got to work. Olympiakos to EPO, to AEK, to UEFA (!) And AEK response to Olympiakos. The άλλη Region another letter against Apollo (!). A real endless mess. And before the EPO even sealed the day and time with an announcement, the "Red and Whites" demanded a final next Wednesday.
All this, before the EPO announced an official date and while it had been suggested at the end of August. While Olympiakos hurried to propose next Wednesday as the date, EPS Heraklion Pankritio as headquarters (for an unknown date) and Region η ran to re-evaluate. Inappropriate Rizoupoli two days later. And while by chance "ammunition" rifles and 18 Molotov cocktails were found in the New Philadelphia Grove the previous day.
